The Payne Stewart Golf Club was founded after the notable American professional golfer — who won three majors in his career — was inducted into the Worlf Golf Hall of Fame in 2001, just two years after his death. Featuring a magnificent course that meanders carefully around preserved rock outcroppings, waterfalls, creeks and wooded areas.
Translating smoothly from the course to the clubhouse, the environment continues its procession of Stewart-styled design. Payne Stewart memorabilia, generously offered by a host of donors, adorn walls throughout the structure. Tracy Stewart, wife of Payne and a chief donor, made possible the formation of the Payne Stewart Museum with the loan of a magnificent collection of personal items — including five Ryder Cup bags, apparel, shoes, and clubs used for significant wins.
The Payne Stewart Golf Club, optimally situated within the clubhouse floor plan, provides a revenue-positive source from which the club supports its daily operations and funds the Payne Stewart Foundation.
Tom Hoch partnered with the Payne Stewart Golf Club in 2007, creating designs for a number of furnishings and fixtures in the Golf Shop. The result is an elegantly understated collection of display cases for the Payne Stewart Museum that employed natural maple woods and clean, modest lines. The overall presentation maintained classic Tom Hoch standards of craftsmanship, while quietly directing attention to the collection housed within.
The clubhouse triumphantly opened its doors as a public facility in 2008, with all 18-holes open for play by June 2009. Today, guests, members and patrons continue to flock to the site, anticipating an authentic Payne Stewart golf experience.
